The West Wing Season 3 Friday, Oct 17 2008

Season 2 ended with President Bartlett stating he was running for re-election, despite having MS. This season follows the aftermath as all the senior staff are put through their paces as the White House is investigated for covering up the President’s illness.

It contains the usual humour between Donna and Josh, but also has a fantastic supporting cast and story lines, such as the one regarding Qumar, the fictional country in the middle east. CJ gets death threats and an agent is sent to protect her, much to her chagrin. It continues as a very strong season with excellent writing.

My favourite of course is Martin Sheen as the by turns serious and also humorous President who must finally choose a successor for Mrs. Landigham, a year after her death. Charlie’s character has grown in leaps and bounds and is extremely confident and funny in his interactions with the President. Donna finally gets to step outside of her Assistant role as she represents the White House in North Dakota.

All the characters grow and change this season and its marvellous to watch.

5 out of 5 stars.

The West Wing : Complete Season 3

The West Wing Seasons 1 and 2 Monday, Jun 9 2008

The West Wing is an American political drama based around the presidency of Josiah Bartlett. It follows the staff at the West Wing as they deal with various political dilemmas and their personal lives.

The first season introduced us to the president and the staff and I think it was one of the most phenomenal ones yet.

The second one picks up moments from where the first one left off, after the President has been shot. It deals with the aftermath of the attack as well as the long term implications on Josh Lyman, Deputy Chief of Staff who was also shot. It also deals with the President’s disclosure of his MS, Multiple Sclerosis and how that affects his intentions to run for a second term.

I think the second season was even more fantastic than the first because we’re more familiar with the characters and the President’s illness brings about a new dilemma which forms the crux of the last half of the season.

The writing is what makes this series one of the best as well as the phenomenal acting of all the principal task as they deal with national and personal crises.

A drama well worth getting into!

5 stars!
