This movie follows the tale of two sisters who although come from the same family, are two completely different people. The only thing they share is their shoe size.

Maggie is introduced as a free spirit who can’t hold down a job and relies on her father and step-mother’s generosity. Rose is the older, more responsible sister who finds herself having an affair with a Partner at her law firm.

The film follows these two sisters as Maggie betrays Rose in a way to sever the relationship between the sisters relationship forever and the way these sisters reverse their roles and ultimately understand each other is what forms the crux of the film.

The author, in one of the DVD commentaries as this is based on a book, said that the film is about the people you love are the ones that can hurt you the most. And I think it really reflects the film.

It could be classed as a frothy chick lit film, but Cameron Diaz and Toni Collette make this film into a study of relationships with the ones we love most and the secrets that bind a family together as well as tear it apart.

I think Cameron Diaz and Toni Collete have fantastic chemistry in the film which is what makes it so believable. And the acting powerhouse that is Shirley MacLaine as their grandmother adds much needed humour to the film.

I’d recommend it and give this film a 4 star rating out of 5.
