I don’t think I’ve watched a series in a while with such intensity, excellent acting gripping storylines. Revelations is a 6 part mineserie about the end of days, Armageddon. Dr Richard Massey is a scientist who has just brought home his daughter’s killer, a Satanist by the name of Isiah Haden.
Massey is then contacted by a nun named Sister Josepha who believes the end of days is coming, after a brain dead girl who was struck by lightning leads her to him. What follows is a race between time as Hawk, Massey’s daughter’s step-brother is also kidnapped by Satanists.
Violence breaks out across the world, holy sites are targeted and Sister Jospeha believes that Christ has been born and will walk the earth again. She and Massey travel across the world, piecing together clues, trying to find the child and prevent Armageddon. The series leaves it unclear at the end what happens after the end of their quest, whether it truly is Armageddon or not, which I suppose leaves you to make your own mind up.
There was also an excellent chemistry between the nun and the star gazer. They worked well together and even acknowledged their attraction, but which neither acted on. The Haden character was truly evil, hissing and spitting and rousing the prison inmates into a revolt in the prison. I haven’t seen this evil a character since Hanibal Lecter.
All in all, a truly gripping series worth watching. Intelligently done, and excellently executed.
